Can maple syrup cure cancer?

The American Cancer Society does not list maple syrup among cancer treatments. A study published by Oncology Reports in April 2015 suggests that maple syrup may be useful in treating colorectal cancer. However, the research did not involve ingestion of maple syrup by cancer patients.

The researchers purchased ordinary maple syrup at a grocery store for the study, but they studied its effect on colorectal cancer cells by attempting to grow the cells in an environment containing the syrup, as the study explains. In this experiment, the cancer cells grew more slowly in a medium with maple syrup than in one with sucrose.
