In addition to working at home for a medical transcription agency, some established transcriptionists also work as private independent contractors, usually out of an office in their homes. Medical transcriptionists transcribe recorded audio medical records, which then become official records at the medical facility. The job usually requires a medical transcription certification, which is awarded at the end of a training program in the field.
