Can mold cause cancer?

The Centers for Disease Control doesn't list cancer among the affects that toxic molds have on people as of 2014. However, Mercola.com reports cancer as one of many health conditions possibly linked to mold. Because mold negatively affects a person's immune system, it may contribute to overall increased health risks.

Authors of the book "Mold: The War Within" blame toxic mold exposure for many of their health ailments, including problems with thyroid regulation, according to Mercola.com. Mold exposure is known to develop or exacerbate allergies and asthma, according to the CDC, especially in young children. It has also been linked to nasal stuffiness and sinus problems, wheezing, eye and skin irritation, and lung infections.
