Regular mouthwash does not treat thrush, but prescription anti-fungal mouthwash from a doctor can treat thrush, according to WebMD. Thrush is treated with either oral or topical medications.
Home treatment is also possible to treat thrush, especially in cases where the thrush is mild, claims WebMD. A patient with thrush should drink cold liquids through a straw or eat Popsicles. A patient with thrush should eat foods such as ice cream, Jell-O and custard. A saltwater rinse can be used by mixing 1 teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of warm water. This rinse should be used several times a day.
