Where can you find a neutral safety switch?

The neutral safety switch is located either in the steering column or next to the gear shift lever. The location depends on where the display is for the gear selection.

If the lever and display are located next to one another the switch is generally also nearby. In most cases it is placed in line between the ignition switch and the transmission, thus preventing it from activating when the lever is not in park or neutral. If the alignment of the display is off or binding, the switch may read out of place. If the switch is removed the vehicle starts in gear.
