Patients can take omeprazole delayed release capsules with applesauce, according to Mayo Clinic. Those who cannot swallow the delayed-release capsule can open it and sprinkle the pellets inside the capsule on one tablespoon of applesauce.
Swallow the omeprazole pellet and applesauce mixture immediately, and follow it with a glass of cool water, advises Mayo Clinic. Use soft applesauce that is not hot and is easy to swallow without chewing. Do not chew or crush the omeprazole pellets. Patients can also take other omeprazole capsules or tablets that are not delayed-release with food, but should swallow them whole without crushing, breaking or chewing.
