Students can use the financial aid calculator at the Federal Student Aid website to calculate an estimate of federal aid, including an estimate for a Pell Grant, the Department of Education advises. The calculator, or FAFSA4caste, is a free tool that gives students an early estimate of eligible financial aid.
When using this calculator, students need to enter the school's estimated cost of attendance along with personal and financial information, the Department of Education explains. From there, the tool provides a variety of college funding sources and provides users with an estimated Pell Grant, Federal Work-Study, and the maximum amount of Direct Subsidized Loan and Direct Unsubsidized Loans.
