To find out what candidates and issues are to appear on the ballot in your area, visit the website of your state's Secretary of State or department of elections. Some county websites also provide election information.

These resources either post lists of candidates and issues or post sample ballots. Websites that post sample ballots usually place the ballot online shortly before an election. For example, Johnson County, Kansas, does not post a sample ballot until 20 days before a given election.

Lists of candidates, such as those provided by the Secretary of the State of California, list candidate names, party affiliation and contact information.
