How do you find out what is on the ballot in your area?

Voting and ballot information are sometimes available on the websites of a state's secretary of state, the department of elections or the county. For example, as of August 2015, the Secretary of State of Texas has a sample ballot available online for a constitutional amendment election on Nov. 3, 2015.

Some election websites only post ballot information within a certain time frame before an election. For example, Johnson County, Kansas, waits to post sample ballots until at least 20 days before an election.

The Virginia Department of Elections opts to provide a list of candidates rather than a sample ballot.
