Can you paint aluminum siding?

Aluminum siding can be painted as long as the surface is prepared properly. This preparation includes the removal of the chalky surface of the siding as well as any flaking paint already present on the material.

After preparing the aluminum siding by reducing it to a clean state, the individual should properly prime the siding using an oil-based primer specifically formulated for use on metal surfaces to prepare them for a topcoat of paint. After allowing time for the primer to dry, the painter can apply a top coat of acrylic paint of any color desired to finish the job.
