Can you paint a bathtub?

Bathtubs can be painted, but it is important to prepare the old surface properly, apply a primer, and use an acrylic polymer paint or epoxy specifically designed for bathtubs. The new paint does not adhere properly if the existing surface is not thoroughly cleaned and sanded.

When sanding, ensure that all the gloss is removed; the rougher the surface, the better. A primer must then be applied to the sanded surface. Once it is completely dry, two to three coats of bathtub paint should be applied, allowing each coat to dry for at least 30 minutes before applying the next coat. Leave the new finish to set for at least two days before using the tub.
