Can you paint over Formica?

To paint over Formica, wash the laminate with warm, soapy water, and allow it to dry. Sand the laminate with fine-grit sandpaper, apply two coats of acrylic primer, and paint the laminate with semi-gloss or latex paint.

After sanding the surface of the Formica with 150-grit sandpaper, wipe the surface down with a damp cloth to remove any dust, and apply two coats of primer that is appropriate for use on high-gloss surfaces. Paint the laminate with one to two coats of paint, followed by one to two coats of clear acrylic. Allow each coat of primer, paint and acrylic to dry completely between applications.
