Can a person deposit cash at an ATM?

Most banks enable customers to make check and cash deposits at an ATM. Banks use a deposit image ATM, which is a special type of ATM that's been designed to read currency from the U.S. Treasury Department. These ATMs will scan the cash for authenticity, and then accept it upon verification.
After inserting the bank card into the ATM and selecting the option to make a deposit, the customer inserts the cash directly into the slot on the ATM. There are no deposit slips or envelopes required.
After the transaction, the customer will receive a receipt as with any other banking transaction.
