It is safe for a pregnant women to use Advil, Motrin and ibuprofen up to 32 weeks of pregnancy, according to the Northland Obstetrics and Gynecology Group in Liberty, MO. Tylenol also may be used to help alleviate headaches and back pain.
Although some drugs are perfectly safe for pregnant women, it is best to avoid taking any type of medication unless recommended by a physician and only when absolutely necessary. Some prescription drugs, including thyroid medications, antihypertensives and antidepressants, are necessary for the health of the mother and baby during pregnancy, but an obstetrician should always be notified of any medications that are needed while a woman is pregnant.
