Can rabbits eat nuts?

Wild rabbits seldom eat nuts, so they should not be fed to domestic rabbits. Nuts are too high in fat to be digested properly. A healthy diet for a rabbit consists primarily of hay and vegetables.
Rabbits should be allowed to eat as much hay as they want in order to ingest enough fiber. Hay helps move food material through the intestines. It is also important to prevent impaction caused by hair or other non-food substances. Vegetables provide rabbits with water and some nutrients. Green vegetables, such as kale, dark leaf lettuces and broccoli, are most nutritious for rabbits. Carrots contain a lot of starch and should be offered in modest amounts.
