How can you remove tarnish from silver?

One way to remove tarnish from silver is to soak the silver item in a mixture of boiling water and baking soda. Another method for removing tarnish is to apply toothpaste to the tarnish with a cloth. If the tarnish does not come off with one method, combine the two.

To use the boiling water and baking soda method, line a pan with aluminum foil and place the silver item on top of the foil. Boil enough water to cover the silver item in the pan. After boiling the water, add 1 cup of baking soda for every gallon of water. Pour the boiling water mixture into the pan, and watch the silver item to see if the tarnish disappears. If the tarnish is still there after a few minutes, heat the water again.
