Can someone search for recall notices by entering a Ford's VIN at a website?

Two ways that an owner can search to find out if there are any safety recalls for a Ford vehicle by it's vehicle identification number (VIN) is through the manufacturer's website or by using the search function of safercar.gov. Notices about safety recalls are also listed on the website of National Highway Traffic Association.

The Ford website lets an individual check a VIN for safety recall in two ways, by signing up for the Ford Owner program or by a simple search under the "recall" section of the Ford site.

In the Ford Owner program, an owner registers on the site and files a vehicle's VIN during that process. In the case of a safety recall on a car or truck, the company contacts the owner directly.
