Can sterling silver rings be resized?

It is possible to resize sterling silver rings. Because sterling silver is difficult to resize, however, it should be done by a professional jeweler.
Most jewelers use a machine in order to compress or expand the rings. On average, sterling silver rings can only be resized by 1/4 to 1/2 a size. If the ring contains a large stone or many small stones, resizing may be impossible. This is due to the chance of changing the setting during the resizing process. If the setting is stretched, the stone can fall out and become lost. Resizing the ring can also cause the metal to become distorted.
