Acute pancreatitis is an inflammation that causes discomfort ranging from mild pain to severe illness, states WebMD. It can result in infection, severe tissue damage and internal bleeding if not properly treated.

Abdominal bloating that spreads to the back may be associated with pancreatic cancer, according to Everyday Health. Other symptoms include jaundice, poor appetite and weight loss. Pancreatic cancer is very aggressive and has low survival rates.
