Can tart cherry juice be used to treat gout?

Tart cherry juice can effectively treat the symptoms of gout. A study at Northumbria University in Great Britain shows that people who drink a concentrate of tart Montmorency cherry juice can eliminate excess uric acid from their systems within several hours, as stated by The Daily Mail.

Participants in the study only had to drink 30 mL of the tart cherry juice concentrate blended with water, two times a day, to reduce uric acid levels in the blood and cut down on inflammation. Because of the side effects associated with many gout medications, the use of tart cherry juice represents a major potential breakthrough, notes The Daily Mail.
