How can you tell if a kitten is blind?

Total blindness in kittens can be detected by watching the kitten closely for unusual behavior, such as reluctance to move from one spot to another or bumping into objects. Sometimes discolored or cloudy-looking eyes, or eyes that appear inflamed and teary, are a sign of blindness.

Most often, blindness in kittens is caused by trauma or infectious disease, but it can also be caused by cancer, diabetes or even a drug reaction. It is possible to create a safe environment for a blind kitten by removing obstacles and dangerous items. Cats can adapt to the environment, even when they are blind, by using other senses to compensate.
