How can I tell if my sun conure is a boy or girl?

The only way to find the sex of a sun conure is to have a DNA test performed. This is because sun conures are monomorphic, which means that male and female members of the species look exactly the same.

Companies provide bird DNA testing for a fee. Depending on the test used, the bird owner may need to collect feathers or blood from the bird to be tested. Feather collection is done by plucking four to six feathers from the bird's breast, while blood is collected by clipping the bird's toenail high enough to make it bleed onto a provided card.
