Interested students can receive pharmacy technician or assistant training through Ashworth College and Pima Medical Institute. Ashworth College and PMI both offer courses online, but PMI also has several campuses in the American West. PMI states that students can receive certification in as little as 10 months.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects job prospects for trained pharmacy technicians to grow 20 percent by the year 2022. On the job, pharmacy technicians help pharmacists by counting tablets, labelling medications and mixing intravenous solutions. Technicians also receive orders from customers, perform data entry and make sure the pharmacy is stocked with essential supplies.
