It is safe to take Tylenol (acetaminophen) and naproxen at the same time, states says the Harvard Family Health Guide. Acetaminophen and naproxen are both painkillers, but they work in different ways.

Naproxen belongs to a group of painkillers known as NSAIDs, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Acetaminophen is not anti-inflammatory, and it relieves pain in different ways, according to the Harvard Family Health Guide. Some people find that one of these drugs works better than the other on their pain, and doubling up on types of painkillers may offer improved pain relief. However, people have different and sometimes unpredictable reactions to medications and combinations thereof, so always consult a doctor or pharmacist before combining over-the-counter drugs.
