Can you use iron pots and pans on a glass top stove?

Some of the newer cast iron pots and pans can be used on glass top stoves. As long as they have smooth bottoms and don't have the raised ridge found on the older style of cast iron cookware, they won't damage the glass surface, according to the Cookware Manufacturer's Association.
Cast iron cookware tends to be quite heavy compared to its glass or metal counterparts, so extra care must be used to prevent accidental drops. All cookware should be lifted directly from the glass top. Dragging pans damages the surface. No matter what material they are made from, it is important to select high-quality cookware. Cheaper pots and pans tend to warp over time.
