A paste of lemon juice and baking soda applied to the teeth can act as a mild tooth whitener, as stated on doctoroz.com. Only leave the whitening paste on the tooth for a minute before washing off, as the lemon acid can erode the tooth enamel.
Whitening teeth at home is possible, although the process may take longer than a professional cleaning. In addition to a simple whitening recipe, Doctor Oz recommends eating apples, strawberries and raisins to clean the teeth and remove stains naturally.
- Mix up paste
- Clean teeth
- Apply paste
Mix up a paste of lemon juice and baking soda in a small bowl. The baking soda will react to the lemon juice and start bubbling. Use while still fresh, before the bubbling stops.
Clean the teeth with a cotton swab to remove surface layers of plaque and spit that can interfere with the whitening effects of the paste. It is also a good idea to brush the teeth with a toothbrush before whitening.
Dip a clean cotton swab in the paste and apply it to the teeth. Make sure to apply a decent amount of the mixture all over the tooth or teeth. Allow the mixture to work for 1 minute and brush it off with a toothbrush. Rinse afterwards to completely remove the mixture from the mouth.
This process may need to be repeated to see gradual whitening.
