Can a woman with a high FSH level still get pregnant?

According to the Center For Human Reproduction, some women with high FSH levels are able to become pregnant. However, infertility treatment is typically necessary. Supplements such as dehydroepiandrosterone are often taken before in vitro fertilization is attempted.

The Center explains that follicle stimulating hormone, or FSH, is a pituitary gland hormone involved in the development of egg cells. FSH levels increase with age, and a "high" level means more hormone than is expected within a particular age bracket. It indicates that eggs are aging prematurely, so the quality of eggs is poor. This presents a challenge during in vitro fertilization because egg vitality is important for a healthy pregnancy.
