An individual can work and still receive Social Security survivors benefits subject to certain income limitations, according to the Social Security Administration. For 2015, an individual can earn up to $15,720 before her benefit is reduced if she is under full retirement age.
After the $15,720 limit, benefits are reduced by $1 for every $2 earned. Once full retirement age is reached, benefits are no longer reduced by earnings. In the year that someone turns full retirement age, she can earn up to $41,880 in earnings before the month of full retirement age without benefits being reduced, as of 2015. After that limit, benefits are reduced by $1 for every $3 earned.
