Does Canada have any gold coins they use for money?

Canada does not use any gold coins as a means of currency as of 2015. Canada has what is labeled as a $50 gold maple leaf coin that contains one troy ounce of .9999 percent pure gold, but it is not used as currency.
Although the coin is technically a $50 coin, it does not make sense to use it as currency since the value of the gold itself is well above the legal tender value. The gold price is the main reason why Canada and many other countries do not actually use any of the gold coins they produce as currency, since the value of the coin can fluctuate greatly depending on the current spot price of gold.
