The Canadian Police Information Centre maintains a national database where Canadian residents can check if a vehicle or a property is reported stolen. The Insurance Bureau of Canada also operates a VIN verification service for vehicles previously reported as flood damaged and non-repairable.

The CPIC national database allows online consumers to check vehicles by providing either the vehicle or property's VIN, license plate number, serial number, registration number or hull identification number. The search tool applies for autos, vans, trucks, snowmobiles, bicycles and others.

The IBC's database includes information about vehicles reported as non-repairable after the flooding across the Greater Toronto Area and southern Alberta. Participating IBC member insurance companies supply the information to the IBC.
