Are Canadian oil stocks a better investment than other commodities?

As of November 2015, Canadian oil stocks have been a somewhat poor investment relative to other commodities. During 2015, most smaller Canadian oil stocks have lost 50 to 80 percent of their values.
As of November 2015, the year-to-date performance of crude oil has been relatively poor compared to other commodities, with a 49 percent decline in value. In comparison, some agricultural commodities, such as cocoa and orange juice, have been profitable. Additionally, although the prices of metals have generally shown year-to-date losses in the 10 to 30 percent range, the losses are smaller than crude oil losses. Only natural gas has performed worse than oil.
