What is a capture card?

Video capture cards are a type of TV tuner that allows users to record video that is routed through the tuner. Recorded video is stored on the computer the tuner is connected to, and many video capture cards come with software that allows video editing and compression.

Most video capture cards plug into the USB port on the computer. AV, composite or S-video cables can be plugged into the other side of the capture card, allowing video from a device, such as a Blu-ray player or video game system, to appear on the computer. A video controller that comes with the capture card can be used to make a record of the video.
