Capybaras eat grasses, aquatic plants, melons and squashes. They are herbivores and live in the water.
Capybaras are the largest rodents in the world. Social animals, they live in South America on riverbanks, in marshes, cattle ranches, and estuaries. They have webbed feet for swimming and ears and noses located high on their heads to allow them to breathe while in the water.
Natural predators of the capybara include jaguars, pumas, anacondas and caiman. In the wild, they live around 8 years. Capybaras communicate through barks, whistles, clicks, squeals and grunts. Living in large family groups, the animals often care for each other's young.
