Why is a car making a chirping noise?

A vehicle can make a chirping noise when a belt is loose or slipping. This can occur as the belt becomes worn down and cracked.
If a vehicle begins making a chirping or squeaking noise, drivers should check all of the belts under the hood. Failing to replace a belt before it slips off or breaks completely can result in costly repairs. To check the belts and hoses, drivers should use a flashlight to inspect the fan belt, the air conditioner motor belt and the power steering belt. Users should also check the water pump belt. If any belts show wear or have cracks, they should be replaced as soon as possible.
