Is there a carnivorous earwig?

Most of the 2,000 species of earwigs are omnivores, meaning they eat both plant and animal matter. Their primary diet consists of decaying organic matter in addition to fresh vegetation and both larval and adult insects.

Earwigs are largely beneficial to humans, preferring to scavenge for decaying matter when the opportunity arises. They also target numerous garden and agricultural pests as prey, using their forceps to hold them. In the absence of decay or prey, earwigs eat the fruit, leaves and shoots of flowering plants. Though their appearance may be frightening, they pose no direct danger to humans. The notion that earwigs burrow into a person's ear and lay eggs or feed on the tissue is a myth.
