A scratched eye that has no easily removable foreign objects should be covered with a clean, soft cloth and securely bandaged. The dog should be taken to the vet as soon as possible.
- Inspect the eye
Check to ensure no dirt or cat hair was left in the eye. If any exist, flush the eye with lukewarm water, or use a moist swab to remove the items. Anything embedded in the eye should be left to be removed by the veterinarian.
- Bandage the eye
Cover the eye with a square of clean, soft cloth and secure the cloth with a bandage around the head. Keep the dog from dislodging the cloth by using an Elizabethan collar, or by bandaging his front paws.
- Visit the vet
Make sure to visit the veterinarian as soon as possible to obtain treatment and prevent further complications.
