What do catfish eggs look like?

Most catfish eggs look like yellow, slimy lumps or beads. Catfish eggs hatch in about a week, depending on the water temperature. There are approximately 2,200 species of catfish worldwide; their eggs vary slightly in terms of color, size and the number produced while spawning.

Male catfish are dedicated fathers. The males prepare the spawning sites, and then they lure suitable females to their site. After spawning, the male guards the eggs and the resulting young once they hatch. Additionally, the male catfish help keep the oxygen level of the nest high by pumping their fins and gills around the nest.
