What are the causes of a calcaneal spur?
By Forinfos - 03/05/2026 - 0 comments
WebMD lists the causes of calcaneal or heels spurs as strains on foot muscles and ligaments, stretching of the plantar fascia and repeated tearing of the membrane which covers the heel bone. Calcaneal spurs occur when calcium deposits build up on the underside of the heel bone.
Additionally, WebMD notes that risk factors for heel spurs are an abnormal walking gait, jogging on hard surfaces, poorly fitted shoes and excess weight or obesity. WebMD reports that people with calcaneal spurs describe the pain caused by the spurs as a pin or knife prick. Treatments for calcaneal spurs are cortisone shots, anti-inflammatory medications, custom-made orthotics and specialized exercises.
