According to Mayo Clinic, ringworm is caused by mold-like parasites that live on the cells in the outer layers of the skin. Ringworm develops on the top layer of the skin and appears as a red circular rash with clearer skin in the middle.
Mayo Clinic also explains that ringworm of the body is related to athlete's foot, jock itch and ringworm of the scalp. Ringworm is treated by applying an anti-fungal cream to the affected areas. Oral anti-fungal pills can be used in more-severe cases. Ringworm can be spread by human-to-human contact, animal-to-human contact, object-to-human contact and soil-to-human contact.
