Several factors that cause the sinuses to become inflamed, including sinus infections and allergic reactions, can cause sinus pain, explains Healthline. In certain cases, underlying tooth infections or deviated septums can cause sinus pain and pressure.
Additional causes of sinus pain include congestion and blockages due to the common cold and nasal polyps, a condition in which small tissue growths develop inside the nasal cavities, according to WebMD. Depending on the underlying cause of the condition, individuals with sinus pain may also experience symptoms such as post nasal drip, headaches, tooth pain and a hindered sense of taste or smell.
