What cell phones were rated best in 2014?

At the close of 2014, the top three mobile phones were Apple's iPhone 6 Plus, the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Moto X, as ranked by ZDNet.com. The iPhone 6 and the Droid Turbo tied for first and third places respectively.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus earned the highest ranking due to their elegant hardware design, the industry's top-rated app store, extensive accessory selection and consistent user experience. The Sony Xperia Z3 came in at number two because it is waterproof, offers a nearly pure Google experience, and it has a premium fit and finish and top-of-the-line Android specifications. The Moto X came in at number three due to the many custom case options, nearly pure Google experience, Motorola experience enhancements and high resolution display. The Droid Turbo is a slightly larger version of the Moto X.
