What certifications are necessary to start a daycare business?

The licensing requirements for starting a daycare business vary from state to state, as such stipulations originate at the state level, according to the Houston Chronicle. In general, however, all daycare services must acquire a state-issued license before opening to the public.

Before earning a license, the location of a daycare center, whether in-home or commercial, must undergo inspection to make sure it meets safety requirements, such as local fire and safety regulations. All prospective employees must have background checks to prevent putting children at risk, explains the Houston Chronicle. Some states require daycare centers to earn a first aid certification and/or employees to take courses in child training. Every state, though, requires daycare centers to display any and all certifications where parents can see them.
