The 5.9-liter eight-cylinder Dodge engine is a liquid-cooled gasoline engine with cast aluminum alloy pistons and a cast iron construction for the block, head and crankshaft. Its valves are arranged in-line, and the cylinders are numbered front to back with the odd numbers on the left.
The engine's displacement is 360 cubic inches. It generates 245 horsepower at 4,000 revolutions per minute, which produces 330 foot-pounds of torque. The wedge combustion chambers have high swirl valve shrouding and contain elliptical cylinders that expand under pressure to a nearly round shape. The engine runs on unleaded fuel with a minimum 87 octane rating.
