As of 2015, the list of top charitable organizations includes the American Kidney Fund, the Animal Welfare Institute, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Compassion International, according to the website for Charity Watch. The site maintains a list of the highest rated charities in a range of categories.

Charity Watch's best charities are evaluated according to several different criteria. The organization takes into account how much of the money the charity takes in goes towards development projects as opposed to promotion or salaries. Another important element of each charity's final grade is how accurately it values non-cash donations to its organization.
