The chemical formula for soda lime is CaHNaO2. Soda lime contains one atom of calcium, one atom of hydrogen, one atom of sodium and two atoms of oxygen.
In some formulations of soda lime, about 75 percent of the content is from calcium hydroxide, with 20 percent coming from water, 3 percent from sodium hydroxide and 1 percent from potassium hydroxide, although the amounts may vary. Soda lime is used to remove carbon dioxide from the air to enable breathing in closed environments. When it is used, the basic reaction that occurs is CO2 + Ca(OH)2 ? CaCO3 + H2O + heat.
