The chemical or molecular formula for zinc acetate is C4H6O4Zn. This compound is a salt produced when zinc oxide is made to react with acetic acid. Zinc acetate can be used as an emetic, an astringent and a styptic.
Another name for this compound is zinc diacetate, the reason for which is observed when looking at its structure, which is comprised of one zinc ion and two acetate groups. Zinc acetate exists in two crystalline forms, known as the alpha (wurtzite) and the beta (sphalerite). Its color ranges from white to grayish white, or it can appear as a yellowish powder.
