The chemical test for glucose is the Benedict’s solution test. This test exposes glucose to a clear blue solution of sodium and copper salts. In the presence of glucose the solution turns a red color, reports The Science Company.
Benedict's solution can be used to test for glucose, fructose, maltose and other sugars, but not for sucrose. The test is carried out by heating the blue solution and the solution being tested for glucose together at about 40-50 degrees Celsius for five minutes. If glucose is present, the liquid changes color from a clear blue to green, yellow or brick-red, depending on the amount of sugar present in the solution, according to The Science Company and BBC.
