Chicken broth is a simmered liquid food preparation made from the bones and meat of a chicken. Additional flavoring from spices and vegetables is often included in chicken broth.
Chicken broth is often made from stock, which is thicker and richer. The bones of the chicken are one of the main ingredients in the stock and give the stock its flavor. Chicken broth is made by boiling a chicken in water and adding ingredients such as celery, carrots and fresh herbs to the pot and allowing the mixture to simmer. Dehydrated chicken stock is also available in grocery stores. It is called chicken bouillon and can be used to flavor a number of foods.
