Why is chlorophyll green?

Chlorophyll is a biomolecule that appears to be green because all the green light is reflected back to the eyes, as chlorophyll only absorbs red and blue light. Without this critical biomolecule, photosynthesis would be unable to occur. Photosynthesis allows plants to absorb energy from light.

Green plants appear green because of the amount of chlorophyll present; as the days shorten, the amount of chlorophyll reduces. As this happens, the other pigments in the leaves show, making the leaves appear to change color. Chlorophyll is added to certain foods and beverages to make them green. Since it is not water soluble, it must first be added to vegetable oil in order to be used.
