What organisms contain chlorophyll?

Chlorophyll is found in most plants and algae and in rare cases, some forms of bacteria. It is a necessary component in photosynthesis, the process plants use to make their own food.

Chlorophyll has a very important job in the photosynthesis process. It absorbs energy from the sun and carbon dioxide to create sugars. There are different types of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll A and B are found in most plants and green algae. Chlorophyll C and D are typically only found in algae and chlorophyll E, a rare type of chlorophyll, is primarily only found in golden algae and some bacteria.
